The Roth bed was designed in 1927 by Alfred Roth for the Le Corbusier houses at the Weissenhof in Stuttgart. One requirement at the time was that it should be easy to slide into a recess on runners.
This led to the striking headboard and footboard made of polished chrome-plated steel tubing, which are a defining feature of this unadorned design. The slatted base, which can be attached to the headboard and footboard without tools using a patented system, appears to float between them. The sleeping surface, featuring an adjustable headrest, can be fitted with an original spring mattress as well as side and neck bolsters.
Whether as a bed for the night, a daybed, a guest bed or a sofa, the Roth bed is equally impressive in both private and commercial settings.
