A blend of tradition and modernity

In our collection, classics of Swiss modernism from the 1930s stand alongside contemporary designs. This coexistence of different eras and generations sets our company apart, and is a key part of our corporate identity. Many classic pieces created in the 1930s are still relevant today. Avant-garde architects Werner Max Moser, Alfred Roth and Marcel Breuer all designed important furniture for Embru that has become an integral part of Swiss design history.

Since 1904

Founded in 1904 as the Rueti Eisen- und Metall- Bettenfabrik ( iron and metal bed factory ) in Rüti, Canton of Zurich, Embru continues to stand for Swiss tradition and quality to this day. The 1930s saw the start of a long-standing collaboration with avant-garde architects such as Werner Max Moser, Alfred Roth and Marcel Breuer. This is how the furniture classics that now form an integral part of Swiss design history came to be. Since 2002, our workshops have been producing small editions of these classic designs, based on original drawings. In some exceptional cases, careful, detailed adaptations were necessary to accommodate modern demands for comfort or environmental protection. We continue to develop new, stand-alone products or additions to our classics in cooperation with designers today.

The factory

Made in Switzerland

All of our metalworking is done at the company’s premises in Rüti. Here, around 800 to 1,000 tonnes of steel are made into furniture each year. Rüti is also home to our museum and showrooms for all of our product ranges. We also have sites in Payerne in Western Switzerland and Heppenheim in Germany. For us, manual craftsmanship goes hand in hand with high-precision technology. We process steel, aluminium, stainless steel, metal sheets and pipes in various shapes and sizes and have our own in-house joinery.
